Progress identifies this presentation as using soft-touch laminate. The photograph records construction; approve the tactile effect on a physical sample. Third-party reference; not a Bravo Package project.

Define the finish before comparing it

Matte lamination, soft-touch film and aqueous coating are not three ascending quality grades. The first two are film options; an aqueous varnish is a coating system. Matte describes sheen, soft touch describes a tactile effect, and water-based describes the coating system. Aqueous ranges can include matte and soft-touch products, so a low-reflection photograph cannot identify whether a box is laminated.
If a quotation says “soft-touch varnish”, ask for the actual product and process. Do not silently turn that description into soft-touch film or assume it is water-based without documentation. Describe the desired appearance, feel and use before comparing named alternatives.
Compare the same printed artwork and stock

Compare alternatives on the same stock, artwork and printed colours. Include dark solids, small text, fine rules, brand colours and required information. Two boxes made with different papers or inks cannot isolate the effect of the finish. View each sample face-on, under angled light and at normal reading angles; a flattering studio photograph is not an approval standard.
Matte and soft touch are not synonyms. Handle the samples and assess the surface character you want to retain. Identify the paper, printed colour and finishing version of the accepted sample. Photographs record appearance but cannot hand over the feel.
Review handling and scuffs in the intended pack

Do not treat “matte resists fingerprints” or “soft touch scratches easily” as universal rules. Similar names can cover different products. Evaluate visible marks on the actual dark printed surface. Agree the intended use and acceptable appearance, then ask the supplier to propose suitable inspection methods and conditions.
Include contacts from assembly, stacking, sleeves and outer packing. Record the contact location, method and result, distinguishing staining, rub marks and finish damage. Where rub resistance or another performance requirement matters, specify it clearly. An informal fingernail or finger swipe cannot establish a test pass, and a surface finish does not make the whole box waterproof.
Approve conversion and decoration together

Inspect folds, corners, wrapped edges, glue areas and joints for unwanted bubbling, wrinkling or lifting. A good flat swatch cannot replace a converted sample. Wrapped rigid boxes and folding cartons have different constructions; approve the relevant assembly rather than sharing one unformed surface proof.
List every intended addition, including foil, spot UV, relief, labels or coding. Have the supplier confirm the film or coating, adhesive, foil and process sequence as a combination, using applicable technical data and trials. Broad claims such as “water-based bonds better” or “matte suits foil” are not production instructions.
Separate environmental claims from cost

Water-based does not automatically mean plastic-free, VOC-free, recyclable or suitable for every contact use. Recycling assessments concern the complete material combination and the destination collection and processing system. Obtain applicable evidence before making a claim. Avoid declaring every laminated box unrecyclable or extending one product statement to an entire category.
A comparable quotation identifies stock, print, named film or coating, coverage, quantity, conversion and additional decoration. Separate sampling, setup and revision charges before comparing complete delivered options. An online price ratio cannot replace a quotation, and price alone cannot approve the result.
Keep an approval that can guide reorders

Keep the box construction, stock and artwork versions, named finishing product, treated sides, coverage, added decoration, converted sample and agreed inspection results together. Retain a physical reference for soft touch, with storage and review conditions where relevant. “The premium matte finish from last time” is not a reproducible specification.
When stock, film or coating source, print or the finishing combination changes on a reorder, confirm whether a new combined proof is needed. Record the location and conditions of any appearance problem so the supplier can address the actual sample. Adding another finish should not substitute for identifying an unresolved cause.
Technical context: INX aqueous coating range. Water-based ranges include different sheen and tactile options. Confirm the actual product and finishing requirements with the supplier.
